Describe two tangible take-aways that you think you could apply in your work.
When I train different individuals on different software the visual aids of static images should be more effective. For example, when teaching a new employee how to award a student, if I were to show screen print outs of each of the different screens and steps that are in need of being changed and arrows showing what buttons are to be clicked on and when, that would be more effective than just text.
I think I could incorporate simulations into my current job in regards to our Return of Title IV software. This software takes various calculations into play and some of it is done manually. By having a simulation it may help our people figure out the complex calculations easier, not to mention to explain to the student how the calculation works. This could be used in the classroom also. Say for instance in a drivers training class. Before the students go out and drive if we had a car simulation program (similar to flight simulation) they could practice on and they could practice all sorts of things like parking, stopping, turning, and even different situations that may arise like wet roads, accidents, or icy roads.

I guess I didn't need studys to tell me that a picture is worth a thousand words. You are right, images will help.
As for diver's trianing simulations, I was taught drivers ed using a simulator 30 years ago. They were really cool and looked just like the inside of a car. We all had dashboards and steering wheels and drove along with a movie. The instructor in the back of the room could tell how we were doing. I got yelled at for going 120 mph in a residential area.
I like the idea of using visual aids instead of just text. The chapter pointed out studies that as long as the aids are relevent student did better learning than with text alone. Also cool idea about simulating drivers training. Thats one place were sometimes we cant really afford to learn from are mistakes.

I agree. I have been working on writing some technology lessons for my first grade colleagues and have added the print screen visual the lesson plan. There are several teachers that feel intimidated by the computer. I am hoping that the print screen visual in with the lesson will help them feel more confident when they are teaching.

Good point about the screen print outs. I think that at times it is important for students to read directions and to understand what they are reading, versus always showing them what to do. Sometimes simplicity is a good thing, but sometimes I think that it can take away from the learning.
I also liked your idea of a car simulation program. The person that develops that efficiently could make a lot of money some day.
